Overview
Beyond Normal is designed with privacy as a core principle. We believe your workout data is yours alone. This policy explains exactly how we handle data — including the parts that leave your device for AI processing — and how to control it.
Privacy Promise

Where Your Data Lives
Beyond Normal stores your training data in two places:
On your device
- Workout history: All logged workouts, sets, reps, and weights
- Personal records: Your PR tracking and achievements
- Custom exercises: Assistance exercises and custom movements
- Program settings: Your training maxes, cycle configuration, and preferences
- Notes: Any notes or comments you add to workouts
- HealthKit data (optional): Body weight and other Health data, only when you grant permission
In your iCloud
The data above syncs automatically across devices signed into the same Apple ID using Apple's CloudKit. This is Apple-managed iCloud — Apple handles the encryption, storage, and access controls. We don't see, store, or have access to your iCloud data.
You can turn off iCloud sync at any time in iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Beyond Normal.
AI Features & Third-Party Processing
Beyond Normal's AI features — the post-workout debrief, the AI strength coach, and readiness scoring — are powered by Anthropic's Claude. To generate a response, the app sends a minimal request to our privacy-respecting proxy running on Cloudflare Workers, which forwards it to Anthropic's API.
What gets sent
- The lift name, cycle, and week of the workout you just finished
- AMRAP reps and weight
- Estimated one-rep max for that lift
- Your free-form text replies in the debrief conversation
- A randomly generated device identifier (used only for rate-limiting and abuse prevention; not tied to your identity, not built into a user profile)
What does NOT get sent
- Your name, email, Apple ID, or any contact information
- Your full workout history beyond the session being discussed
- Your training maxes, PRs, or program settings
- Anything from outside the AI features — logging a workout, viewing your PRs, exporting data, none of that touches our proxy or Anthropic
How Anthropic handles it
Anthropic processes the request synchronously and returns a response. Anthropic does not train models on data sent through their API. Their handling is governed by Anthropic's privacy policy.
You can use Beyond Normal entirely without the AI features. The core 5/3/1 logging, progression, and PR tracking are fully on-device and never touch our proxy or Anthropic.
Data Control & Deletion
You have complete control over your data at all times:
Export Your Data
Navigate to Data Management in the app. CSV export of your workouts and PRs is free for everyone. Premium adds a full JSON backup that round-trips through import, so your full state moves with you, not the app.
Delete Your Data
Individual Items
Delete specific workouts or personal records directly from Data Management. Deletions are immediate and permanent.
Complete Reset
Use Delete All Data in Data Management to clear everything instantly. This action cannot be undone.
Uninstall App
Removing Beyond Normal from your device automatically deletes locally stored training data. Your iCloud copy stays until you remove the app from iCloud as well.
Purchases & Subscriptions
Beyond Normal offers two subscription tiers for Premium features:
- Monthly subscription: 30-day free trial, then billed monthly
- Annual subscription: Billed yearly
Users who purchased a lifetime unlock before this version of the app retain their access permanently. Lifetime is no longer offered for new purchase.
All payment processing is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store:
- Payment processing: Handled exclusively by Apple
- Purchase validation: We receive only Apple's anonymized transaction receipt to verify your purchase and unlock features
- No payment details: We never see, store, or access your credit card, billing address, or payment information
- Subscription management: Managed through your Apple ID settings, not by us
Apple's privacy policy governs their handling of payment data. We recommend reviewing it at apple.com/legal/privacy.
What We Don't Collect
Beyond Normal is built to respect your privacy. We explicitly do not collect:
- No personal identifiable information (name, email, phone, address)
- No analytics or usage statistics
- No advertising identifiers, no cross-app tracking, no ad networks
- No precise or coarse location data
- No third-party analytics SDKs (no Google Analytics, no Firebase Analytics, no Facebook SDK, no Mixpanel, no Segment — none)
- No crash reports collected by us (Apple may collect crash logs per your iOS settings; those go to Apple, not to us)
- No behavioral tracking or user profiling
Communication
The only time we may receive personal information is if you contact us directly via email for support. In such cases:
- We'll only use your email address to respond to your inquiry
- We won't add you to mailing lists without explicit consent
- We won't share your contact information with third parties
- Support emails are deleted after your issue is resolved
Data Security
Your data is protected by multiple layers:
- On device: iOS device encryption, Face ID/Touch ID, and iOS sandbox protections that isolate app data
- In iCloud: Apple's CloudKit encryption and access controls
- In transit to our proxy: HTTPS/TLS with shared-secret authentication. The proxy itself runs on Cloudflare Workers and forwards to Anthropic over HTTPS.
We recommend keeping your device updated with the latest iOS security patches and using a strong passcode.
Children's Privacy
Beyond Normal does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app does not require accounts or personal information, making it suitable for all ages. Parents should supervise device access as appropriate.
Changes to This Policy
As Beyond Normal evolves, we may update this privacy policy. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
